Your local garden designer for Grantham, Stamford, Newark, Rutland & surrounding areas

We would much rather talk about you and how Tythorne Garden Design can help you with your garden design project, but we appreciate that you may want to know a bit more about us.

Tythorne Garden Design was created by Ian McBain (who, judging by the family photograph below, was always destined for a career in the garden) to help people to enjoy their gardens more. Designing beautiful and practical gardens since 2004, Ian has built a deserved reputation as a trusted and talented professional garden designer.

Ian’s design credentials are exemplary, having studied design at the Royal College of Art and subsequently teaching design at various UK universities. Alongside his creative skills, however, Ian also gained essential practical experience by spending time working as a landscaper with a well-regarded local company.

A Registered Member of the Society of Garden Designers, and an Accredited Garden Designer with the Association of Professional Landscapers, Ian writes a monthly column about garden design for Link Magazines and has been a guest speaker at Nottingham Trent University. Ian is also a RHS Award winner, having been awarded a prestigious Silver Gilt medal for his first ever show garden at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival in May 2024. Primarily designing gardens for customers in Grantham, Stamford, Newark and the surrounding areas, Ian can help you to enjoy your garden more with beautiful and practical garden design solutions.

An interview with Ian was published by Horticulture Magazine in November 2023. The interview is available to read on Horticulture Magazine's website, and a recording of the interview can be watched by clicking on the image above or via this link.

Our lead designer, Ian McBain, is a fully registered Member of the Society of Garden Designers. The SGD is the UK's leading organisation for professional garden designers, and by choosing a registered member for your project you can be confident that they have the necessary skills and experience to help you create your perfect new garden.
